Zsófia Geréb

Her tasks as founder and board member at tbd works include:

Zsófia Geréb, born and raised in Budapest, initially pursued philosophy at Eötvös Loránd University before studying theater directing at the University of Theater and Film Arts Budapest and completing her second Master’s in music theater directing at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin.

She works in both opera and theatre, develops pieces in collaboration with contemporary authors, such as Péter Závada, and composers, including Thierry Tidrow. She has directed for venues such as the Hungarian State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen and Aalto Theater Essen, where her work has received critical recognition, including the Berliner Opernpreis and the Gelsenkirchener Theaterpreis. As an educator, she teaches acting for opera singers at the HfM Hanns Eisler Berlin, UdK Berlin, HfMT Hamburg, and led the Opernstudio NRW’s scenic program for three years. Her productions reflect her interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, exploring classical, contemporary, and original works.

Dorottya Urai

Her tasks as founder and board member at tbd works include:

She holds degrees in Art History from the Faculty of Arts at Eötvös Loránd University and in Design Theory from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. During her academic years, she conducted research on the performance art of El Kazovsky, the renowned Russian-born Hungarian painter, performer, poet, and costume designer.

Since 2014, Dorottya has held various roles at Central European University, first in Budapest and now in Vienna, where she currently manages the University’s academic partnerships. Between 2019 and 2020, she also served as International Theatre Project Manager at Káva Theatre.

Zsófia Varga

Zsófia is a Budapest-based dramaturg mainly working in city theatres and with independent companies. She studied Dramaturgy at the University of Theatre and Film Arts Budapest (SzFE) – before the political occupation – and Theatre Studies at Károli Gáspár University.

She’s a permanent dramaturg of Örkény István Theatre in Budapest. She works on adaptations, contemporary and classical plays and develops pieces with director Jakab Tarnóczi based on improvisations.
